11 years ago I became a full time artist, starting this activity in Somerset, then living in Portsmouth taking inspiration from the local area along with my visits to Somerset. A lot of my artwork looks to traditional styles of art which are recognisable to the local area and now living in Corsham in Wiltshire. A lot of inspiration is taken from Renaissance artists and even sculptures I turn into paintings to give them some life. less

Over the course of four days, a collaboration for a mural painting for a bathroom in a 17th century Manoir, developed from the brief: ‘I picture a Riot of Flowers'. Working with Isabella Palin, the main bathroom was given some extra life. A blank wall is presented. A discussion about what is expected throws up the phrase ‘a riot of flowers' and time is spent in the room getting a feeling for the space. less

My main medium is wire, which I began to use many years ago as a way of liberating the drawn line into free space. Having worked two dimensionally with the material for some time, I am now far more sculptural and three-dimensional. However, ultimately all my language has its roots in drawing and I aim to maintain the sense of freedom of the drawn line in my sculptures. Drawing is the visual artist's answer to singing. less

JANE CARTNEY ART STUDIO

JANE CARTNEY ART STUDIO

Described as a colourist-expressionist, Jane is a spontaneous artist who works intuitively. The main body of her work is informed and inspired by form and colour, either in architecture or the landscape. Much of Jane's work is produced for charity. The intangible inspires me to paint, in much the same way that hearing a piece of music or a particular voice inspires me to sing. less
